A quick update about the future of this newsletter....
Hey there,
You may have noticed that we haven’t sent any jobs in the last couple of weeks. And if you just subscribed, you may be wondering when your first email will arrive.
I’ll cut to the chase… we’ve paused the newsletter for the next few months.
This wasn’t an easy decision, but over the Christmas holidays, it became clear that the newsletter may not be the most effective channel for helping people in Africa secure jobs. It takes a lot of time to sort through every job board and email online to filter the best hiring in Africa. And by the time we share them, they may have already received 100s of applicants.
Also, to the best of my knowledge, no one has secured work via the newsletter. (If I’m incorrect in that assessment, please reply and let me know).
Finally, 2023 was a turbulent year for everyone in marketing and remote work – myself included. So, in 2024, I need to ensure my own freelancing career is secure. Every hour spent on the newsletter was one hour less working for my clients. It became unsustainable, and I had to make some changes.
However, publishing the newsletter each week proved one thing: there is a huge amount of online job opportunities for people in Africa. You just need to know where to look and how to find them.
So, in the coming weeks, we plan to publish every website and newsletter we used to source jobs, so you can access them directly. I’m also exploring how best to prepare people in Africa for the international jobs marketplace, which is incredibly competitive and requires a very specific set of skills to stand out.
This may be in the form of a blog, YouTube channel, courses, or community.
So, stay subscribed if you want to be notified when the next version of this newsletter launches.
And if you have any requests on how we can best help you secure work online (or start an online business of your own), please reply with suggestions.
All the best,
Conor
