🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈

Before we begin, I just wanted to send a quick message to all our LGBTQ+ community members.

While June is a time to celebrate you and your culture, I’ve been reminded throughout the last few weeks of the ongoing struggle LGBTQ+ people are facing across the globe.

So, I wanted to tell a story of small optimism.

When I was born in 1989, homosexuality was criminalized in my home country – Ireland. Activists had been campaigning since roughly 1970 for gay rights, and in 1993, the Irish government was essentially forced to de-criminalize homosexuality by the European Union.

However, Ireland remained deeply homophobic and anti-gay. I was bullied and ridiculed for my perceived queerness as a teenager, and many of my male college friends with uncomfortable just being in a room with a gay man.

Skip ahead to 2015, and Ireland became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage by popular vote. 62% of voters – overwhelmingly young – had not only accepted the LGBTQ+ community, but decided they deserved equal rights and the freedom to express their love like everyone else.

I was in Ireland the day of the referendum, and it was a truly joyous celebration.

In 2017, we got our first openly gay prime minister (also the son of immigrants).

Over the course of my 33 years, I’ve seen queer rights in Ireland transformed. In one generation, homosexuality went from a criminal act to acceptance by the majority of society.

So, while it feels particularly bleak out there right now, just remember: things can (and do) change.

🇰🇪 Join Us in Nairobi Tomorrow Evening!

Just a quick final reminder that we’re hosting a small get-together for all our Nairobian community members tomorrow.

Come along if you want to spend the evening with fellow remote workers, consultants, and online biz owners. It’ll be an informal event, but we’ll also be hosting conversations on career-building and in-demand skills.

In previous meetups, we’ve had recruiters and startup founders looking for freelance help, and one person even wound up potentially getting funding from investors!

This Week in AI

As always, there was way too much AII news to keep up with. But keeping up with AI is the most critical skill for freelancers, consultants, and business owners in 2023.

So, with that in mind, two courses jumped out at me:
